Advancing behavioral and evolutionary science to foster
human, organizational, and societal well-being through global collaboration
Behavioral and Evolutionary Science for Human Systems
KIND Global Lab is an international research and training laboratory led by Dr. Yukie Kurumiya. We integrate behavioral science, contextual behavioral science, evolutionary science, and interdisciplinary perspectives to understand and improve human systems across individual, organizational, and societal levels.
Our work spans research, education, and global collaboration, with particular interests in cultural health, sustainable well-being, and systems-level change.
Research Programs
SEED Research Project
A flagship research program exploring how behavioral, organizational, and societal systems can support sustainable well-being, resilience, and cultural health.
Digital Health & EMA
Using digital tools and ecological momentary assessment to study behavior and well-being in real-world contexts.
International Collaborations
Connecting behavioral science with public health, sociology, disaster science, and organizational research across cultures.
Prosocial & ACT Applications
Applying contextual behavioral science models to support psychological flexibility, cooperation, and collective effectiveness.
Guiding Principles
Functional Kindness™ 🌱
A concept developed by Dr. Yukie Kurumiya.
Functional Kindnessâ„¢ emphasizes intentional, contextually grounded, and culturally responsive actions that support meaningful behavior change, sustainable systems of care, and collective well-being.
Evolutionary Perspective
We seek to understand how individuals, organizations, and societies adapt, cooperate, and thrive over time across multiple levels of selection.
Global Collaboration
We advance knowledge through interdisciplinary and international partnerships that support cooperation, collective action, and sustainable systems across diverse disciplines, cultures, and communities.
Theoretical Foundations
KIND Global Lab draws upon multiple scientific traditions to understand and improve human systems across individual, organizational, and societal levels.
Behavior Analysis
Understanding behavior through interactions between individuals and their environments, with an emphasis on observable behavior, learning processes, and environmental influences.
Contextual Behavioral Science
Applying contextual and functional approaches to promote meaningful behavior change, psychological flexibility, and values-guided action.
Evolutionary Science
Examining how individuals, organizations, and societies adapt, cooperate, and thrive over time across multiple levels of selection.
Human Performance Engineering
Designing supportive systems, environments, and processes that enable individuals and organizations to perform effectively and sustainably.
Prevention Science
Promoting long-term well-being through proactive, systems-level approaches that strengthen protective factors and reduce barriers to healthy development and flourishing.
Featured Research & Initiatives
Selected initiatives advancing human, organizational, and societal well-being through behavioral and evolutionary science.
SEED Research Project
Sustainable well-being, cultural health, and systems-level change
